Obedience Under The New Covenant

Obedient Sons

When Paul says, "Do not go back to the law," have you heard it interpreted as meaning "ceremonial law?"
I have.
Is this statement true?
No.
In 2 Corinthians 3:7 he says, "But if the MINISTRY OF DEATH, WRITTEN AND ENGRAVED ON STONES, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of the glory of his countenance, which glory was passing away,"
Ony the Ten Commandments were written on stones.  All other laws were written on parchment.

Romans 7:1
"1 Or do you not know, brethren (for I speak to those who know the law*), that the law has dominion over a man as long as he lives?"

*Those who "know the law" to whom Paul is speaking, are Jewish, NOT Gentile, believers.  Jewish children have pretty much MEMORIZED the entire five Books of Moses IN HEBREW by the time they are five.  Believe me:  THEY KNOW THE LAW in a way we do not.
According to this verse, as long as you are living, the law has dominion over you.

Romans 7:2-3
"2 For the woman who has a husband is bound by the law as long as he lives.  But if the husband dies, she is released from the law,of her husband.
3 So then if, while her husband lives, she marries another man, she will be called an adulteress; but If her husband dies, she is free from that law, so that she is no adulteress, though she has married another man."

It's crystal clear that God's laws are set in stone; THEY CANNOT DIE.  Neither is there any getting around them.
If the law cannot die, the only way to be released from it's righteous handwriting of requirements is if YOU die.
Since that would not accomplish what God intended, because dying in your sins would send you to hell, He sent His Beloved Son to take our place; to die our death; to free us from our former husband, "Mr. Law," so we would be free to marry Him;"Mr. Grace!"

Think of it this way:
If you died and two years after the fact it is discovered that you committed a crime worthy of the death penalty, would they exhume your body, put you through a trial and kill you all over again?  I dearly hope the answer to that is OBVIOUS!

Because of what Jesus did.....
Romans 7:4
"4 Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ,"

God doesn't want the law preached which produces slavish servants, fearful of every mistake;  He wants sons that are free and cry "Abba!" who obey out of love FOR Him.....not fear OF Him!
Under grace we are even more obedient to God than under law.  We don't obey God because we HAVE TO; we obey a Him because WE GET TO!  We want to return His great grace and marvelous love because we know of how much we have been forgiven:  OUR ENTIRE LIVES!

It's not about being obedient servants but about being obedient sons.
