The Gospels Part 5: Mark

Mark.
Mark 10:43b-45
"...whoever desires to become great among you shall be your servant. And whoever of you desires to be first shall be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
-

-
The Gospel of Mark is all about Jesus, the One Who came not to be served, but to serve.  Though this verse isn't recorded until chapter 10, it expressly declares His purpose.
-
In the first chapter, Mark talks all about Jesus going here, going there, doing this, doing that, being busy, busy, busy, busy.  He is healing, restoring, preaching, ministering, cleansing the leper, and casting out devils.  It is action all the time, moving, healing, delivering, restoring, and of course, more preaching.
-
Glorious Servant.
The word, "Immediately," is in practically every paragraph.  It is translated from the Greek word, "Eutheós," which means "Immediately, straight away, soon, at once, forth with;" well, you get the idea.
Mark records "Immediately He did this; immediately He did that," eleven times in the first chapter alone, and 42 times in the sixteen chapters of his gospel.  By comparison, it appears only 18 times in Matthew, 7 times in Luke, and 6 times in John!
-

-
Bad Grammar?
Many sentences in this gospel begin with the word, "And."  From verse 16 onward, it is "And He walked by the sea...". "And immediately He did this," "And immediately He went there."  He is always working, tirelessly serving!  He is the Divine Worker.
-
That is not good English.  Only the Holy Spirit can get away with grammar like that.  Our English teachers would never let us get away with that!  Beginning every other sentence with "And," would never fly.  It's as if the entire book is one long running narrative.
-
There are 45 verses in chapter one AND 35 of them begin with the word, "AND!"  AND of the 16 chapters, 11 of them open with the word, "AND!"  Though the shortest of all the gospels, Mark uses this word approximately 1,200 times!
-

Why "And?" And speaks of "Movement."  That's Jesus!  He never stops working, always on the move.  He never gets tired of serving His people.  He is the Perfect Servant, the Divine worker.  No wonder it is the Ox that represented this gospel in the Old Testament!
-
The Seven A's.
Look at the beauty and symmetry in this gospel, in the movements of our Lord Jesus in the first chapter.  Below are the seven A's of chapter 1:

#1)  Announced by the forerunner, John the Baptist.
Mark 1:1-3
The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is written in the Prophets:
“Behold, I send My messenger before Your face,
Who will prepare Your way before You.”
“The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, (Yahweh)
make straight in the desert a highway for our God." (Elohim)
(Malachi 3:1, Isaiah 40:3)
-
#2) Approved by the Father.
Mark 1:10-11
"And immediately, coming up from the water, He saw the heavens parting and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove. Then a voice came from heaven, “YOU ARE MY BELOVED SON, IN WHOM I AM WELL PLEASED.”
-
#3)  Anointed  By The Spirit.
Mark 1:9-10, (YLT)
"9 And it came to pass in those days, Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John at the Jordan;
10 and immediately coming up from the water, he saw the *heavens dividing, and the Spirit as a dove coming down upon him;"
-
*Literally, the heavens divided for Him as He rose from the waters of baptism.  Also, talking about Jesus causes the heavens will open up to you!  Demons hear His Name and run screaming!  His Name is the Name above every other.  EVERY KNEE must bow!
-
#4)  Assailed by the devil.
Mark 1:12-13
"Immediately the Spirit drove Him into the wilderness.  13a And He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan..."
The devil didn't drive Jesus into the wilderness.  The Holy Spirit did so that He could be tested to show He was the real deal.
-
Hebrews 14:15 says, "For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin."  The Greek here, if you study it carefully, reveals that He was tempted but nothing to do with sin, as how you would test a gold nugget to determine it is the genuine article.
-
#5)  Acknowledged by the wild beasts.
Mark 13b: "...and was with the wild beasts;"
For 40 days (6 weeks) Jesus' only company was that of the wild (not domesticated) beasts, which were subject to Him.  Unlike man, they recognized their Creator.  Man did not know their God, even though He walked among them and performed incredible miracles!
-
#6)  Attended to by Angels.
Mark 1:13c "...and the angels ministered to Him."
Just like Jesus, angels minister to you and I because we are valuable to God!
-
#7)  Acclaimed by the multitude.
Mark 1:32-34
32 At evening, when the sun had set, they brought to Him all who were sick and those who were demon-possessed. 33 And the whole city was gathered together at the door. 34 Then He healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and He did not allow the demons to speak, because they knew Him."
-
Finally, man acknowledges this wonderful Servant Who came from Heaven.  He healed ALL who came to Him and taught as One having authority, not as the scribes and Pharisees.
-

-
Written TO Gentiles.
Comprised of only 16 chapters, this is the shortest of all the gospels.  It was written primarily to the non-Jewish Church and is the only one in which events are listed most often in chronological order.  The others put events that happened at an earlier time later in their narratives and visa versa.  The Holy Spirit, Who has a Divine order in mind, does this on purpose to convey a specific message.
-
Because he was writing to Gentiles, he didn't mention anything about Jewish laws, since those things never applied to them.  Matthew, on the other hand, who wrote specifically to the Jewish people, is full of Jewish laws and traditions.
-
It's interesting to note that Mark records 3 times more miracles than parables in comparison to Matthew.  Matthew records more parables.  Why?
When it comes to serving Jesus, what you do is more important and telling than what you say.  Talk is cheap, after all.
Remember, the theme of Mark is the Divine Servant.  Jesus came and served mankind but, unlike frail humans, He had the grace, knowledge of the Father's will, and power to carry it out.
-
The humblest thing you and I can do is allow Jesus to serve us.  Will you consent to allow Him to serve you?
He wants to give you gifts of healings, of provision, of every good thing the Father desires you to have.
God's power, like water, flows most to the lowest places.  It seeks those who are lowly and have a servant heart, like Jesus, the Servant Leader.  He is the One Who said that the greatest in the kingdom of God is the greatest servant of all.

-
John Marcus.
John Mark was the Jewish secretary the Holy Spirit used to write the Gospel of Mark.  How it shows the grace and mercy of our Father in that He had this young man pen this particular gospel!  Who was he?
-
He was not one of Jesus' disciples.  John is a Greek name, from the Hebrew, "Hananiah," which means, "Grace."  Marcus was a Roman name.
-
Remember the story in Acts 12 where Peter was in prison for preaching the gospel?  There had been much prayer going up for him at the house of a woman named, "Mary."  Let's follow the story:
-
Acts 12:5-10
Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church. And when Herod was about to bring him out, that night Peter was sleeping, bound with two chains between two soldiers; and the guards before the door were keeping the prison.
Now behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the prison; and he struck Peter on the side and raised him up, saying, “Arise quickly!” And his chains fell off his hands. Then the angel said to him, “Gird yourself and tie on your sandals”; and so he did. And he said to him, “Put on your garment and follow me.”
So he went out and followed him, and did not know that what was done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision. 10 When they were past the first and the second guard posts, they came to the iron gate that leads to the city, which opened to them of its own accord; and they went out and went down one street, and immediately the angel departed from him."
-

-
Because of constant prayer being offered for him, Peter was miraculously delivered from prison.  The account goes on to say, "he (Peter) came to the house of Mary, the mother of John whose surname was Mark, where many were gathered together praying."
-
Mary was John Mark's mother.  It was at her home that the Church was gathered to pray.
-
Three chapters later, there was a quarrel between Paul and Barnabas over this same young man.  Though we are not told exactly what he did, he failed big time in doing the work of the Lord while ministering in Pamphylia.  He was a servant who failed.
-
John Mark Grew Up.
But fear not!  Later on in 2 Timothy 4:9-11, John Mark has been restored for Paul says to Timothy:
"Be diligent to come to me quickly; 10 for Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world, and has departed for Thessalonica—Crescens for Galatia, Titus for Dalmatia.  Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for ministry."
-
Somewhere along the way, John Mark grew up.  He is the servant who failed that the Holy Spirit used to write the Gospel of Mark, about the UNFAILING SERVANT!

Please follow the link below to Part 6 where we'll discuss the theme of the Gospel of Luke:

The Gospels Part 4: Matthew

Matthew 2:1-2
"Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”
-

-
Matthew.
The only place in the entire Bible you find the story of the wise men from the East is here, in the Gospel of Matthew.  It says in the very beginning of chapter 2, "Wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”
-
Did you catch that?  They didn't say He was "born TO BE King," but "BORN KING."  How appropriate that this event be recorded here because Matthew is the Gospel of The King.
Jesus didn't come to earth to be crowned king; He already was King--He already is Royalty!  In fact, His parents, not Herod, were the true royal couple.  They should have been reigning in Jerusalem instead of Herod.  Why, he wasn't even a Jew!

-

Tax Collector.

Matthew was a tax collector, which meant he had renounced His people, friends and family, his nation and God.  He had to swear absolute allegiance only to Rome and Caesar.  That’s why tax collectors were hated and ostracized.  They were considered even lower than prostitutes.

Imagine how he felt as he wrote these words in chapter 9:  “9 As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax office. And He said to him, “Follow Me.” So he arose and followed Him.”  No doubt, there were tears in his eyes.

Up until that time, he must have lost all hope of ever going to heaven.  After all, he had renounced God, right?  But one day, this Man walked into his life and extended grace to him.  He immediately left everything and followed Jesus.

He invited Jesus back to his home, threw a party in Hus honor, and invited all his friends, most of whom were fellow tax collectors or prostitutes.

-
Jewish Gospel.
This gospel is Jewish in nature.  You'll notice that the phrase, "Kingdom of God," is never mentioned.  That's because the Jewish people don't like to use God's name.  Even today, in their books or documents, they will write either "G-d, kingdom of Heaven," or refer to God as "the Name:  haShem."  Matthew understood this reticence of theirs very well and wrote his gospel with that understanding, in deference to them.
-
Contained in this account of Jesus' life is 1) The genealogy of the King; 2) The constitution of the King; 3) The deeds of the King, and 4) The plan of the King, hidden in parabolic form.
-
#1) Pedigree/Lineage Of The King.
Because Matthew is the Gospel of the King, in verses 1-17, he records the genealogy of The King, from "David, the son of Abraham, to Joseph the husband of Mary."   Even though he provided no seed, nevertheless, Jesus was born into Joseph's household.  Through both parents, Jesus had a DOUBLE CLAIM to the throne of King David.
-
Notice Matthew lists David's name first, then Abraham.  Why?  Because through David came the right of kingship.  It was to Abraham that God promised the land.  When Jesus, the King returns to set this world right, He will rule as King over the whole earth from His land and His capital:  Jerusalem.
-

-
#2) The Constitution Of The King.
In the sermon on the Mount, Jesus shares with us the Constitution of His Kingdom.  Because Jesus was rejected as their King, this kingdom is now in temporary suspension, until He returns at the end of the 7 years of tribulation.
This is an entire subject in and of itself which I will not go into here.  If you're interested in more on that topic, follow the link below:
https://emmausroadministries.wordpress.com/2016/05/07/the-gospel-of-the-kingdom-part-8-of-16-rightly-dividing-the-word-of-god/

-
#3) The Deeds Of The King.
Matthew 7:28-8:4
"And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes."
8:1  "When He had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him. And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.”
Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
And Jesus said to him, “See that you tell no one; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”
-
Right after the constitution of the King is documented the deeds of the King.  Throughout the middle of Matthew are all kinds of miracles.
-
As soon as Jesus finished the sermon on the Mount, He turned around, AWAY from the crowd, and began to demonstrate what the world would be like with Him in charge.
-
The first thing He did was heal a leper who had been hiding behind a rock on the other side of the mountain.  The man had obviously been listening to every word.  Jesus must have known he was there because He came down that side of the mount where He would pass right by the man.

We see Him going here and there, healing the sick, raising the dead, casting out demons and cleansing lepers.  He was demonstrating what the world would have been like had He been in charge for the last 2,000 years.  What a wonderful world it would have been, huh?
-

-
The Plan Of The King.
Matthew 13:10-11
And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?”
He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given."
-
In this chapter, Jesus lays out the plan of His kingdom.  It is hidden from view of the general public because they rejected their King.  Because they did so, He beagan to speak to them in parables so that, seeing they would not see, and hearing they would not hear.
-
The kingdom parables of Matthew 13 reveal that first the gospel would be given to the Jewish people. (They treasure hidden in the field, vs. 44)  But because of their ultimate rejection, God would then begin to send the gospel to the Gentiles and they would be offered a chance to be saved from their sins (The pearl of great price, vs. 45-46)
-
Ultimately, Jesus would return after the seven years of tribulation and  the gospel would go throughout the whole world.  Nations would be saved!  (The dragnet, vs. 47-48)

Esther Series Part 6: Evil Day Turned Into Victory!

Esther 3:12-14
“12 Then the king’s scribes were called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and a decree was written according to all that Haman commanded—to the king’s satraps, to the governors who were over each province, to the officials of all people, to every province according to its script, and to every people in their language. In the name of King Ahasuerus it was written, and sealed with the king’s signet ring.
13 And the letters were sent by couriers into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to annihilate all the Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar, and to plunder their possessions.
14 A copy of the document was to be issued as law in every province, being published for all people, that they should be ready for that day.”

                      IMG_0084

This story of Esther is really the story of two decrees. The first royal and binding decree represents the Old Covenant:  The Ten Commandments; the second depicts the New Covenant.
Her Persian name is Esther but her given name was Hadassah.
(For more about her names, their meanings and significance in this story, follow this link:
https://emmausroadministries.wordpress.com/2016/03/16/hadassah/)

The First Decree.
In the Persia of her day, had the first decree put forth by the king been allowed to proceed, it would have caused the death of all the Jewish people in one day. It was lawfully signed by the King himself and sealed with his signet ring and was not only valid, but binding and irrevocable as well.
The King had been entreated by the wicked Haman who was incensed that Mordecai refused to bow before him.  But he wasn’t content enough to only to be rid of Mordecai.  No; he sought to kill all his people as well!
Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?   Other evil leaders like him down though history who have sought to destroy God’s covenant people have suffered the same fate as Haman.  It never ends well for those who set themselves against those whom God loves!

                                   IMG_0085
(Mordecai refuses to bow to Haman)

In Esther 3:8 he {Haman} said to the king, “There is a certain people scattered and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of your kingdom; their laws are different from all other people’s and they do not keep the king’s laws. Therefore it is not fitting for the king to let them remain.”

This genocide was scheduled to occur on the 13th day of the Jewish 12th month of Adar.

Evil Day.
The date was determined by the casting of lots, called “pur.”  In Hebrew, when you want to make a word plural, you add “im” to the end of it, like we add an “s.”  The plural of the word “pur” is “Purim,” hence the name of the feast commemorating Queen Eshter’s victory.  Refer to the link above for more about how this feast is celebrated in Israel today.
Copies of the decree were sent out to all the provinces.  This is recorded in verse 13 of chapter 3. I’d say this would definitely qualify as an evil day, wouldn’t you?

There exists a principle in Bible interpretation called, “The law of first mention.”  It states that the first mention or occurrence of a subject in Scripture establishes an unchangeable pattern, with that subject remaining unchanged in the mind of Godthroughout Scripture.”
The first mention of the phrase, “Evil day” in the Bible is in Ephesians 6 verse 13.  This is  NO coincidence.
“13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand IN THE EVIL DAY, and having done all, to stand.”
This passage shows us what to do to turn around any “EVIL DAY.”
13 in Bible numerics means “rebellion.”  Haman’s plan: definitely evil and rebellion!  How do we know that 13 means “rebellion?” Let the Bible interpret itself.

(Follow this link for more on that topic:
https://emmausroadministries.wordpress.com/2016/03/20/bible-numerics/)

The first law put forth WITH THE KING’S AUTHORITY (God) that was working for our death was “The Law: The Ten Commandments.”  Haman’s name means “the wrathful; the angry man.”  It brings to mind what Paul wrote that “the law worketh wrath.”  (Romans 4:15)
You’ve heard the phrase, “the devil goes about as a roaring lion, right?”  Yep; that’s the picture!  Haman was angry, just like the devil is angry, going about roaring and raging, always trying to make us think that the King, God, is angry at us when, in fact, He is not.

The second decree put forth by the King and also sealed with his signet ring was no less legally binding. The Jews had FULL, legal and rightful authority to defend themselves against the first decree.  They gathered themselves together to do just that.

                          IMG_0086
(The King drafts the 2nd law)

Esther 7:11-12
“The king’s edict granted the Jews in every city the right to assemble and protect themselves; to destroy, kill and annihilate the armed men of any nationality or province who might attack them and their women and children, and to plunder the property of their enemies. 12 The day appointed for the Jews to do this in all the provinces of King Xerxes was the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, the month of Adar.”
In those days they fought with swords.  We have the same kind of weapon against our enemy, the devil.  We have “THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT,”  in our mouth; the SPOKEN word of God. That’s the message of Ephesians 6:17.

                      IMG_0087

I’m sure you’ve heard that the sword of the Spirit is the Word of God.  God’s written word only becomes “the sword” the moment it is “SPOKEN.” This is “the RHEMA word,” a very effective weapon against any situation, any lack or any disease that would be contrary to us.
You and I have a sword to combat whatever enemy comes against us IN OUR MOUTH:  the Word of God.  What is your enemy?  Cancer, diabetes, heart disease, depression, poverty, debt?  Speak His word over any situation.  Jesus paid the FULL PRICE for us to have complete Shalom.
Our old adversary, the devil, spews out “water like a flood:” a flood of words that is, to accuse us. He tries to convince us that God doesn’t heal today, that He doesn’t save or deliver any more.  He’s an absentee landlord…..and He is angry with you.  So we use our “sword,” our tongue, and remind him that HE’S DEFEATED!  HE HAS NO MORE RIGHTS OF ANY KIND to put poverty, sicknesses, diseases or any such thing on us!  His rights were CANCELLED the moment we accepted Jesus as our Savior!
NO MORE FLOODS, DEVIL!!!

                           IMG_0088.JPG

This whole story is about how God reversed the first decree and NAILED THE LAW TO THE CROSS! He has given us a new covenant based on better blood; better promises; ETERNAL RIGHTEOUSNESS!
The church at large still doesn’t realize this…..YET.  Most Christians, pastors and theologians, if you asked them, “Was the devil was defeated at the cross,” will readily say, “Yes.”  But ask them if they know that the Law was also nailed nailed to the cross…..uh…..um…..well…..they’re not so sure.  Some flatly deny it.

                                            IMG_0089
(The Law, the “handwriting of requirements,” was nailed to the cross.)

Haman was hanged on his own 50′ gallows in chapter 7.  It’s a picture of the devil being DEFEATED AT THE CROSS and, though it happened sometime later, Haman’s 10 sons were also hanged on the gallows. They are a typology of the law.  Prophetically speaking, it is a picture of the law being nailed to the cross and the Church catching on to the idea eventually, since this event occurred sometime after Haman’s hanging.  It means the church will be SLOW to recognize that they are not under law anymore.  But she will, at LONG last, come to grips with this truth.
Jesus death did so much more than UTTERLY DEFEAT the devil, as AWESOME as that is!!!  As a result of His finished work, God has given us a BLANK CHECK!  Read what the King said to Esther:

                           IMG_0090.PNG
(Haman to be hanged on his own gallows)

Esther 8:7-8
“7 Then King Ahasuerus said to Queen Esther and Mordecai the Jew, “Indeed, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and they have hanged him on the gallows because he tried to lay his hand on the Jews. 8 You yourselves write a decree concerning the Jews, AS YOU PLEASE, in the king’s name, and seal it with the king’s signet ring; for whatever is written in the king’s name and sealed with the king’s signet ring no one can revoke.”

See?  AS YOU PLEASE!  They could write anything they wanted to and it would be sealed with the Kings ring, making it IRREVOCABLE!  He even told her he would give her up to half his kingdom.
Today, as sons and daughters, we don’t get just half the kingdom;  WE GET THE WHOLE THING!

Matthew 16:19
19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and WHATEVER you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and WHATEVER you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
WOW!!!  That’s a blank check!

                               IMG_0091.PNG

HALLELUJAH!!!  The first decree–the Law–has been overruled by the second–GRACE!
Abba has given us a blank check.  And what beautiful lessons and reassurance for us in these last days in the story of Esther!

Esther Series Part 5: The 13th Of Adar

Esther 4:14
{Mordecai to Esther} “14 For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?”

IMG_0069
(Queen Esther ponders Mordecai’s news.)

In part 5 of this wonderful story of Esther, we see how courageous she was and how she saved her people from total anihilation by their enemies.

Dress-Up!!
You saw in part 1 that the Jewish people celebrate this happy holiday by dressing up in costumes, kinda like our Halloween. Purim occurs in the month of Adar, which is the last month of the year on the Hebrew calendar. More precisely, it falls on the 13th day of that fateful month.

13, in case you didn’t know, is the number of “Rebellion,” in Hebrew Gematria, or biblical numerics. Why?  For that answer and a WHOLE LOT MORE on that topic, follow the link below:

                              IMG_2054

God’s Name Not Mentioned.
Did you know that God’s Name is not mentioned anywhere in the entire book?  Nope.  NOT ONCE!  Extraordinary!  So how did this book come to be included in the scriptures at all?
The facts below make for some very compelling reasons. Oh yes: Esther is a book that most definitely deserves to be in our Bible.

                            c1aa2-image
(Myrtle Blossom.)

Hadassah
Queen Esther wasn’t given that name by her parents. They named her, “Hadassah,” which means, “Myrtle tree,” in Hebrew. Esther, her Persian name, means “Star.”

Above is a picture of one of the flower of the Myrtle tree.  It is a very beautiful, very fragrant tree.  It’s white, five-petaled flower typifies not only Jesus’ righteousness, but ours as well. It also depicts believers in general.

Five is the number of grace. This beautiful, fragrant tree was a blessing tree. It was used in both the tabernacle and temple, as well as during the Feast of Tabernacles.  Most “Sukkah,” which is what the Jewish people call their temporary shelters during this feast, include branches from the Myrtle tree.
                           c5990-image
(Hadassah: Myrtle Tree.)

God Hid His Face.
Though Esther in the Persian language means, “star,” something bright and highly visible, in Hebrew it means, ” I hide my face.”  Very telling!
You see, God had warned His people that if they turned away from Him to follow other gods, He would “hide His face” from them and send them into exile.  Well, He made good on His promise. He sent them away from the city of peace (Jerusalem means “city of peace”) into the city of confusion. (Babylon means “confusion.”)
IMG_0082
(God Hides His Face.)
Deuteronomy 31:16-18
“16 And the LORD said to Moses: “Behold, you will rest with your fathers; and this people will rise and play the harlot with the gods of the foreigners of the land, where they go to be among them and they will forsake Me and break My covenant which I have made with them. 17 Then My anger shall be aroused against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I WILL HIDE MY FACE  from them, and they shall be devoured. And many evils and troubles shall befall them, so that they will say in that day, ‘Have not these evils come upon us because our God is not among us?’ 18 And I will surely HIDE MY FACE in that day because of all the evil which they have done, in that they have turned to other gods.”

Isn’t it curiously “coincidental,” that THE ONLY book of the entire Bible which “happens” to mean, “I hide my face,” also does not contain any mention of the name of God?  He is hiding His face!  Check it out; 167 verses; ZERO MENTION OF GOD!
However…..though it does not appear on the surface, you can see Him everywhere, working behind the scenes.  He is either controlling events and circumstances directly or turning backward any evil intended to harm His people.

Secrets Hebrew In Acrostic Form.
Hidden in the Hebrew text itself in acrostic form, at every crucial turning point, every critical juncture, the Hebrew text clearly shows that, although he has hidden His face, He did not forsake His people!  He was still protecting them.

These are the letters of His name in Hebrew: “Yahweh–[יהוה] yod hei vav hei, reading from right to left.  They appear in four places in acrostic form at critical junctures.  It is BACKWARDS when He is OVERRULING the devil’s evil devices; FORWARD when He is RULING DIRECTLY.  This, by the way, is how Bible codes are done, a phenomenon with which the Jewish rabbis are quite familiar.

There are two occurrences where He is overruling; two where He is ruling directly and one where a different Name of His stands alone.

Acrostic Code.
The Bible code, secrets hidden in Hebrew letters, and messages in acrostic form may be new to us but they were originally discovered by Jewish rabbis long before Jesus came to earth.  The unpronoucable, unspeakable tetragram of the Name of God, “Yahweh,” is a perfect example of this type of hidden message.  These things are for us to find and be blessed in their discovery.

That’s my God!!  Whenever the devil comes to accuse, our God says, “Overruled! Out of order!  Case dismissed!”

Webster’s dictionary defines an acrostic as:
1. a composition, usually in verse, in which sets of letters (as the initial or final letters of the lines) taken in order form a word or phrase or a regular sequence of letters of the alphabet
2 : an ACRONYM —

The first time His Name appears is in Esther 1:20.  It is backwards.

Hebrew reads from right to left, so if you were reading it backwards, you would read left to right.  The letters that spell His Name–“Yahweh,” The Covenant-Keeping One,”–are in parentheses.  It is backwards here because He is overruling, turning back Vashti from being queen so He can position His choice for Queen: Esther.

(First Decree.)

Secrets In The Hebrew Letters.
Esther 1:20
20 When the king’s decree which he will make is proclaimed throughout all his empire (for it is great), ALL WIVES WILL HONOR THEIR HUSBANDS, both great and small.”
This is what this phrase looks like in the Hebrew text:
‎[הִ֑)יא     (וְ)כָל־     (הַ)נָּשִׁ֗ים           (יִ)תְּנ֤וּ)]<—–(read right to left)
yi-tê-nu   ha-nashim   ve-kal    hē
shall give  the wives    and all   it
You can see that God’s Name is BACKWARD-overruling man’s decisions.
‎[הוהי]
backwards
‎[יהוה]
foreword

The next time it appears, His Name is foreword in Esther 5:4, where Esther invites the King and Haman to her banquet of wine:
‎[יָ)ב֨וֹא              (הַ)מֶּ֤לֶךְ           (וְ)הָמָן֙         (הַ)יּ֔וֹ)]<—–(read right to left)
ha-yom   ve-Haman    ha-melek        Ya-vov
This day  and Haman  let the king    Come

God’s Name, Yahweh–[יהוה]—appears FORWARD in acrostic form.

Esther thought this was her decision but it was actually God’s decision to invite the King and the evil Haman to a banquet of wine.  He is initiating directly, behind the scenes, orchestrating events to benefit His people.

Typologies.
Wine, in the Bible, is representative of the Blood of Jesus as the King in this story is representative of God.  Though not perfect or “a god” by any means, he is used by the Holy Spirit in this story for the purpose of teaching us some things about God.

Esther 5:13
“All this avails me nothing”
‎[(זֶ֕(ה)  אֵינֶ֥נּ(וּ)  שֹׁוֶ֖(ה)  לִ֑(י]<—–(read right to left)

God’s Name appears BACKWARDS in Hebrew in this phrase.  God is turning back the evil designs of the devil.  It was Haman’s bitterness against the Jews that God turned back on him.  He saw Mordecai the Jew “sitting” at the King’s gate.  He refused to bow before Haman.  Being a Jew, he will only bow before God.

Haman is a typology of satan.  He hates to see you and I sitting, resting in the finished work.  He wants you to get up, use the arm of flesh and your own intellect and do something.  But you and I don’t need to worry or fret.  We rely on God for our wisdom and direction.  We move at His request.

Descendant Of King Agag.
Haman, interestingly, was a direct descendant of King Agag whom King Saul had spared.  He was an Amalekite.  These people had, and in face, still have, an ancient hatred for the Jews.  IT AVAILS THEM NOTHING.

And finally, in Esther 7:7, Haman comes to realize his goose is cooked!
“Evil was determined against him”
‎[(כִּֽ(י)־  כָלְתָ֥(ה)  אֵלָ֛י(ו)  הָרָעָ֖(ה]
God’s Name appears FORWARD in this phrase as God sends the evil that the devil was going to do to his people and uses it to destroy him instead.  Haman is ultimately hanged on his own 50′ gallows, a picture of the devil being totally defeated at the cross!

The number “50,” in Bible numerics, is the letter, “nun-[נ]. Num means, “fish,” a picture of the believer.  Because of the cross, we believers have full authority over the devil!

Final Acrostic.
The last time God’s Name appears it is not Yahweh; it is: I AM.  Moses at the burning bush asked God what His Name was and He said, “I AM THAT I AM:”  It is that same Name here.

This is the phrase from Exodus 3:14-
‎[אֶֽהְיֶ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר אֶֽהְיֶ֑ה]<—–(read right to left)
I am who I am
‘Eh’yeh  asher ‘eh’yeh

The King, upon hearing Esther’s request, was enraged and demanded to know who would presume to harm the Queen or her people.  He said these words:
“Who is he and where is he?” in Esther 7:5:

(Esther accuses Haman to the King.)

Below is The Name in acrostic form.
‎[מִ֣י ה֥וּ(א) זֶ(ה֙) וְאֵֽ(י)־ זֶ֣(ה) ה֔וּא]<—–(read right to left) Who is he and where is he?  The final letters in each of the four Hebrew words are an acrostic of “I AM—>’eh’yeh.’  From right to left:
‎         [אהיה]
aleph-hei-yod-hei = ‘eh’yeh
This is the “I AM” of Moses’ burning bush!

Evil Day.
When your “evil day”–(not “evil days,”- plural – please note) comes and it seems like God is hiding His face, HE ISN’T!  Know and believe that God has provided everything you need to withstand in your evil day.  Even if you feel as if He is far away, know and believe that He is working on your behalf to turn that evil “day” -singular-  into “GOOD DAYS!!!”-plural!

Ephesians 6:13
“13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand IN THE EVIL DAY…..singular…..and having done all, to STAND.”
