God's Favorite Name

Genesis 2:4-7
“This is the history of the heavens and the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, before any plant of the field was in the earth and before any herb of the field had grown. For the LORD God had not caused it to rain on the earth, and there was no man to till the ground; but a mist went up from the earth and watered the whole face of the ground. And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.”

God is known by many Names throughout the Bible.  Do you suppose He has a favorite?  Actually, He does!
The first time the most awesome NAME “Yahweh,” is mentioned is here in Genesis 2:4.  Though “God” is mentioned in the very beginning it is not “Yahweh,” in Hebrew.  It is Elohim, which means “creator.”  Yahweh is The Covenent One.  It is always written in English as “LORD,” all capital letters. You see, until man was created, there was no one with whom to make a Covenent.

YHWH, "Yahweh," the "unpronounceable Name," is our covenant-keeping God.

(The "unpronounceable" Tetragrammaton.)

The Jewish people have a reverential fear of saying this Name of God for fear of blaspheming God.  They will often spell it in English like this:  "G-D."  As sons and daughters of God because of Jesus, we Christians have no such slavish fear.
God is called by many Names throughout the Old Testament.  Google the Names of God sometime.  There are more than 100!  No doubt, you'll see some of your personal favorites; Rapha-healer; Nissi-provider; Shaddai-Almighty; Shepherd; Comforter.  It's a very long list.

Among all those Names in the Old Testament, however, NOWHERE do you find God's favorite name, the #1 Name by which He desperately wanted to be known.  One of the many reasons Jesus came to earth was to reveal that very Name.  The reason you won't find it ANYWHERE in the Old Testament is because He could not be known by that Name.....YET!

You see, He had to conceal His plan in the Old Testament in order to shield it from the many, varied and unrelenting efforts of the devil both to discover and stop it.  (For more on this topic, follow this link:

HALLELUIA! HE FAILED.....MISERABLY!!!!!

God, above all, is pure Love. He loved us SO MUCH, in fact, that He willingly sent His beloved Son to earth to be born as one of us, to live among us and die as one of us so that every sin, which separated us from Him, could be done away with PERMANENTLY!
Pure love, however, cannot rest and be satisfied without the company of the ones He loves: US!  He couldn't wait rip the veil that separated us from Him.  You see, He was just as much a prisoner as we were.

He was desperate to have you and I be able to come and sit on His lap, to hug us to Himself with His strong, protecting, loving arms and hear us call Him by His favorite Name.........

ABBA-DADDY  [אב]
