The Five Offerings Of Leviticus, Part 10: New Covenant Application

Five Offerings; One Perfect Sacrifice:  Jesus, The Lamb Of God!

John 17:1-4
“Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent."
-

-
We have the end of the five offerings of Leviticus.
What does this verse have to do with the subject at hand?  Simply this:
Jesus, in this, His high priestly prayer, prayed to His Father for you and me.  His earnest desire was "that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent." John 17:1-2.
-
The Apostle Peter, in 2 Peter 1:2 wrote, "Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord."  Studying all these things causes us to "grow in the knowledge of God and Jesus Christ, Whom He has sent, causing as a by product, "Grace and peace to be multiplied in our lives."
-
How These Offerings Apply To Us.
Under the New Covenant, we no longer offer the sin and trespass offerings.  By accepting Christ as our Savior, He has taken care of our sin nature and our sinning once and for all.  We walk through life with His covering and thus have the same acceptance (radzon) before God that Jesus has.
-
The first three offerings that are a sweet savor to God, however, we still offer today.  How?
Consider the following verses:
-
Hosea 14:1-2
"O Israel, return unto the Lord thy God;
for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity.
Take with you words, and turn to the Lord:
say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously:
so will we render the calves of our lips.
-
What does that mean:  "The CALVES of our lips?"  That we have lips as fat as a cow?  No.  The verse in Hebrews below explains it:
-
Hebrew 13:15-16
"By him (Jesus) therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased."
-
Instead of offering bulls and goats, our praise to God with the "calves of our lips" are the "sacrifice we offer to God!
-
Consider also these verses:
Ephesians 5:2
"And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma."
-
Phillipians 4:18-19
"Indeed I have all and abound. I am full, having received from Epaphroditus the things sent from you, a sweet-smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well pleasing to God. And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
-
"A Sweet smelling aroma."  Sound familiar?  That's what God smelled when Noah offered his Burnt Offering.  And what was the result?  God vowed He would NEVER destroy the whole world with a flood ever again.
-
When the Burnt Offering goes up by the "calves of our lips," the blessings come down to God's people!  There are showers of blessings!  The reference in Phillipians called financial blessing of our brothers and sisters and our contributions to Christian work as well as the tithe a "sweet smelling aroma, a sacrifice well-pleasing to God."
-
The Successful Christian Life.
The secret to successfully walking through life as a believer is found in these two verses.  Both Jesus and the Apostle Peter clearly show us what that secret is:  "To know You (meaning the Father) and Jesus Christ, Whom He has sent."  By increasing in this knowledge, both grace and peace (shalom) WILL BE MULTIPLIED TO US.  I WANT THAT!
-
Grace is "unmerited favor."  Peace: "Shalom in Hebrew; In Greek: "Soteria," is a very rich word.  It is wholeness in every area:  Peace of mind, which includes freedom from fear, prosperity in your life, in your relationships and in your finances, wholeness in your mind and in your emotions.  These things are "MULTIPLIED" to you as your knowledge of Jesus increases.
-
Why We Study These Offerings.
Can knowledge of these things help you in your daily Christian walk, when the heat is on?  Can they help when you are sick, when challenges in life rise up, or when us or your family is under attack by the enemy?  Yes, because you are INCREASING IN YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF JESUS!
-

-
The Emmaus Principle.
The very first record of Jesus appearing to His disciples after His resurrection was on the Emmaus Road.  He went through all the Law and the Prophets and explained to them the scriptures "CONCERNING HIMSELF."  And what was the effect?  They were so encouraged and so energized they practically ran all the way back to Jerusalem!   Folks, that a seven-mile trek.....and it was nearly dark.  Amazing!
That's how excited they were.  That's how energized they were.  And the first thing they wanted to do was share Jesus with their fellow believers!
-
Power Of The Spoken Word.
Another perk of studying the Old Testament and seeing Jesus in all the scriptures about Him helps us in fighting the good fight of faith.
-
When Jesus was tested of the devil in the wilderness, what did He do?  He could have said or done anything He wanted, right?  After all, He is the Son of God.  But how did He defeat the devil EVERY TIME?  HE SPOKE OUT THE WRITTEN WORD OF GOD.  "It is written..." "It is written..." It is written..."

-
That's how you "resist the devil" so he will flee from you:  Speak out the word of God!
-

-
Faith Comes By Hearing.
And how does the word get in your head so it comes out of your mouth?  Faith comes by "hearing, and hearing by the WORD OF GOD."
When life happens, the Holy Spirit brings to mind what you have "heard."  How can He bring to mind that which you have not heard?  We need to hear, and hear, and hear, and keep on hearing.

-
2 Timothy 1:7 "The Lord has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and of love and of sound mind."  When life comes at you, Jesus' voice whispers to you, "Fear not; I am with you."  When the devil says to you, "Look at so-and-so.  Your family always gets this or that disease.  You're going to get it, too."  Jesus says, "Be not afraid.  I am your health."
-
The Holy Spirit comes to your rescue by reminding you of what you have heard.  How can He bring to mind that which you have not heard?  The obvious answer is, "He can't."
-

-
Transformed By Beholding.
As you hear by studying God's word, you are changed.  You become calm in stressful situations because you are, resting; seated in Christ.  You understand how to guard your heart so it doesn't fail you because of fear.
Your calm demeanor is a witness to your family, your friends, your colleagues.  Jesus said you will "Be witnesses," not that you will "DO" witnessing."  By "hearing" you are transformed because you are beholding Jesus.  You see Him in all the stories, types and shadows that you are studying now.  They are like looking at Jesus through an expanded view!
-
Now, when you read through the book of laws, you'll better be able to see Jesus in these amazing five offerings of Leviticus.
