The Pool Of Siloám

John 9:1-6 1"Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth. 2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” 3 Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him. 4 I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” 6 When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. 7 And He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloám” (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing."

Jesus must have smiled inside when the disciples asked Him this question. I don't think they really thought it through very well. How could this man's OWN sin, being blind FROM BIRTH, have been responsible for his own blindness? I can just hear Him chuckling.

Because they were still under the law, since Jesus had not yet died, they were, of course, referring to the generational curse.  We today, THANKFULLY, have been completely delivered from that and ALL curses because of Jesus' finished work!  AMEN!

Kind of strange, don't you think, that Jesus would spit on the ground, make clay out of it and anoint a blind man's eyes?   You'd think it make him even more blind.  But as usual, the Holy Spirit is telling us a story to teach us more about our altogether lovely Jesus!

The King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Creator of all the universes, the One Who spoke to Moses from a burning bush, Who made the sun stand still for almost a full day in the sky in Joshua's day, Who parted the Red Sea STOPPED.  He turned around when He heard the cry of a poor, blind beggar.  After anointing the man's eyes with clay, He told him to go and wash in the pool of "Siloám;" (see-low-ÁM) which literally means "Sent One."

Why did Jesus make clay?  Why not simply touch this blind man?  For countless others He simply spoke to them.  He even spoke words of healing when they were a great distance away and they were healed.  But for this man, He made clay and put it on his eyes.  He was demonstrating that He is The One Who created all things.  He was the One Who formed man out of clay.  

You see, when Jesus first came to Israel they were as blind spititually as this man was blind physically. They couldn't see that He was their Messiah, The One for Whom they had waited for centuries.  He was here! 

Jesus told him the man to go and wash in the pool of Siloám and he would receive his sight, which he did.

Not too long ago in Modern-day Israel this ancient pool has once again been uncovered by Israeli archeologists.  I believe it has come to light for such a time as this.  It is no coincidence! 

More of our Jewish brethren than ever before in history are washing the "clay" off their own (spiritual) eyes!  Their eyes are being opened!  HALLELUJAH!  They are seeing Jesus as The One; The Sent One, their Messiah;

Their "Siloám."
