The Un-Pardonable Sin?

"And so I tell you, every kind of sin and slander can be forgiven, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven." Matthew 12:31

You've probably heard something preached about this at some point in your life and perhaps felt threatened.  Either that or you had the living daylights scared out of you by some well-meaning preacher. You might even have wondered, "Am I guilty of it?"

I don't know why the humor of it never occurred to me but after hearing such a message, what's the point of having an altar call?  If you haven't committed it, there's no problem.  But if you have then uh oh: YOU'RE TOAST because, HELLO.....IT'S UNPARDONABLE!
How could Christians be guilty of this sin in light of John 10:28-29?  Either the Bible is contradicting itself.....AS IF!!!!!.....OR.....there's something we don't understand.  

Whatever you heard in regard to what it is or whether you could have committed it, here is strong consolation for you.  The Apostle Paul NEVER mentioned any sin that was "unpardonable" in any of his writings to the Gentile believers.  If it existed and was any kind of threat, he would have made a point of teaching about it.  It would be irresponsible of him to omit something of that magnitude in importance, don't you think? 

First of all, the gospel of Matthew was written TO the Jews.  Those who preach (erroneously) that a believer can commit the unpardonable sin #1: Don't understand righteousness and #2.  Don't understand how to rightly divide.  They are taking the verse totally OUT OF CONTEXT. 

Don't feel bad though.  I personally know a PhD who doesn't understand these things. Yep, that's right; a Doctor of Divinity who doesn't know how to rightly divide.

In the verse above, Jesus is talking to you-know-who...AGAIN:  The Pharisees.  These religious leaders, in Jesus' presence, not only fr ejected Him in His three-fold glory but accused Him relentlessly and CONTINUOUSLY of doing His miracles by the power of the devil, thus blaspheming against the Holy Spirit. THIS IS UNPARDONABLE.

Secondly, because they rejected Him as THE GREATEST Prophet, priest and King, in the very next chapter He begins to speak to them in parables.  He had to do so because He both loved them and it was a judgment.

Have any of you ever seen Jesus perform miracles in person, heard Him preach in person and accused Him of being allied with the devil?  Are you a really, really, REALLY old Jewish religious leader from the time of Jesus that has rejected Him?

NEWS FLASH:
For the believer, THERE IS NO SIN YOU COMMIT THAT IS NOT CLEANSED BY JESUS' BLOOD.  NONE!!!  Jesus did a complete work.  

See what He says about us who belong to Him:
John 10:27-29
27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
28 I give them ETERNAL life, and they shall NEVER **{ou-mé}** perish; NO ONE will snatch them out of "MY HAND."
29 My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all  ; NO ONE CAN SNATCH THEM OUT OF MY FATHER'S HAND."

**Ou-mé in Greek is a double negative-"never, in no wise." Double negatives strengthen the denial**
NO ONE can pluck you out of either Jesus' hand OR His Father's hand.....INCLUDING YOU. 

If believers cannot commit this sin, why do pastors preach on it?  It's a scare tactic in a vain attempt to get their people to live holy lives.  They are preaching sin consciousness which ALWAYS backfires.  

READ HEBREWS 10 and you'll see that God does not want us to have sin consciousness. 

I think they also forget about 1 Corinthians 15:56 which says, "The strength of sin is the LAW."  The Law produces sin and unholy living.  Grace is the antidote. 

So, ease your mind, Church.  You're completely safe and secure.  You don't qualify to commit the UNpardonable sin.
